Serve2Learn Mini-Conference
“Campus to Community: Making Effective Connections”
October 19, 2007
The Center for Leadership and Civic Education enhances the education of students for responsible citizenship and effective leadership. Our vision is that students readily seek and accept opportunities for leadership, partake actively in professional, civic, and community organizations, offer themselves for positions of trust and public service, and strive to make positive changes in their professions and communities.
In the spirit of our vision the Center will be hosting its first annual Serve2Learn Mini-Conference, October 19, 2007 in the Student Service Building on the campus of The Florida State University. The theme for this year’s conference is Campus to Community: Making Effective Connections. The conference will provide opportunities to network, learn new skills, recruit volunteers and gain a sense of renewed purpose and inspiration.
The goals of the conference are to:
- Provide opportunities for participants to broaden their knowledge and skills and increase their efficacy.
- Engage in a fun and interactive atmosphere for participants to connect with each other and with valuable materials and resources.
- Provide an opportunity to network and recruit volunteers.
FSU students, staff, faculty, and community agency representatives are encouraged to attend this conference. Specialized topic workshops will be offered especially for students, faculty and agency representatives, and an interactive joint workshop is also planned. The purpose is to give conference attendees the opportunity to learn specific skills and knowledge as well as establish and/or strengthen campus/community connections (volunteer recruitment, tap into new resources, learn about programs, etc). Our hope is that through interactive mixed group discussions and the exchange of ideas and information, all attendees will gain a fresh perspective on how best to meet your personal needs as well as meet the needs of others.
