Big Bend Homeless Coalition’s HOPE Community

The Big Bend Homeless Coalition facilitates the delivery of services to homeless families and individuals by providing education, advocacy and the coordination of community resources. At the HOPE Community, men, women, and families experiencing homelessness can receive comprehensive services. Volunteers are needed to assist with childcare at HOPE Community.

 


Boys and Girls Club

Boys and Girls Club

Come and interact with children ages 6 through 18! Activities include tutoring, arts and crafts, and sports. Boys and Girls Club volunteers are required to complete an application, which can be found in the front of the Boys and Girls Club Binder.

 


Centre Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center

Centre Pointe is a Life Care center dedicated to service and hospitality. Centre Pointe’s trained professionals provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy to inpatients and outpatients. Outreach volunteers will assist with passing out books and refreshments to residents, transporting residents to and from activities, and visiting with less mobile residents.

 


Challenger SWIM

The Challenger Swim Team is a program for children with special needs. Volunteers are needed to hang out by the pool, help teach swimming basics to children with disabilities, and offer meaningful support and encouragement. No experience is necessary. In the winter, lessons are taught in an indoor pool. Please wear your (one-piece) bathing suit!

 


Chattahoochee Elementary

Chattahoochee Elementary is located northwest of Tallahassee in neighboring Gadsden County. This school has been ranked an “F” school for the past two years and is desperately in need of tutors to work in classrooms and assist struggling students in various academic areas including reading, math, science, and writing. Volunteers need to bring their driver’s license and fill out a volunteer application that will be provided by the school.


Emergency Care Health Organization (ECHO)

ECHO works in partnership with local congregations, civic associations, and businesses to provide food, clothing, job placement, counseling, and financial assistance to those in crisis or emergency situations. Bethany Apartments is a 15 unit complex that provides temporary emergency housing to families with children. Volunteers are needed to assist with childcare at Bethany Family Apartments.

Grace Mission (this project is FULL at this time)


Grace Mission serves children from predominantly illiterate homes by providing homework help and encouragement to succeed in school. Volunteers are paired with a student and are required to commit for a semester.

 


Panhandle Area Educational Consortium: Gadsden Migrant Education Program

PAEC Migrant Education PAEC teaches English to a predominantly Hispanic population of adults and children. Student volunteers will be trained and assigned to assist the ESL teacher with one-on-one or small group instruction. Other students may work with the children of the ESL students providing educational and recreational support. You do not need to speak Spanish to attend this project.

 

 

 

 


Project LOVE (Loving Our Valued Elders)

Project Love

Volunteers are needed to spend time with elderly patients at Westminster Oaks. Taking walks, making arts and crafts, and reading are just some of the options for interacting with the wonderful residents.


Sidewalk Sunday School

Side Walk Sunday School is an outreach of Good News Outreach for children at Maryland Oaks, a rent-subsidized transitional housing development for homeless and at-risk families. Its purpose is to present the gospel to the children in a manner that they understand using songs, skits, puppets, games, Bible stories, and object lessons. Volunteers are needed weekly to help facilitate games, serve food, distribute toys and assist with supervision.
